How EMS Calls Benefit the Fire Service

What are the benefits of running emergency medical service (EMS) calls off the engine or ladder company? The U.S. Fire Administration's National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) topical run profile demonstrates that fewer than 10 percent of runs made by fire departments involve fire. More than half (55 percent) of the incidents to which fire departments respond are categorized as EMS or rescue.
