Scott Safety was founded as Scott Aviation in 1932 when Earl M. Scott began manufacturing the first pivoting tailwheel for airplanes in his Lancaster, NY basement. The company grew steadily for the first few years as a manufacturer of several aviation components, but then exploded during World War II when the British Royal Air Force asked Mr. Scott to develop a walk-around, on-board oxygen system for its pilots so they could safely fly to altitudes of 30,000 feet and above.
