Implementing an Induced Hypothermia Protocol

ALL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SER-vice (EMS) providers across the nation are trained in treating hypothermia and cold-related emergencies: Use blankets, remove wet clothes, and slowly apply heat to passively warm patients to aid in their survival. But how many of us are aware of the effectiveness of inducing hypothermia in our patients to increase their survivability and improve their neurological outcomes? How many of us have considered implementing or are currently using an induced hypothermia protocol or variation thereof to treat patients revived from cardiac arrests?
