History of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) and Module Deployments

In 2006, the state of Texas sent municipal firefighters to the Texas Panhandle to protect the town of Canadian. The state had identified this need in prior years. After an explosive Southern Plains fire in light fuels occurred, local and state resources were exhausted quickly.This remote area certainly has its challenges. The light fuels and strong winds common in this region during winter fire season can quickly go from manageable to out of control quickly. By using a state mutual-aid model, needed resources were able to beef up and relieve local resources to ensure protection to Canadian.
