Stein and Berardinelli discuss the tension caused by the differences among the generations of firefighters in today's workplace. They also provide tips for building intergenerational understanding, that include baby boomers and Generation Xers. Among other things, they suggest that Generation Xers should be receptive to learning the ropes from the baby boomers' experiences since the fire service is an extremely traditional organization. No matter how Generation Xers may feel about traditions, one of the most irritating things to the baby boomer is the new recruit who wants to change things without getting the facts and evaluating what has gone on before.
