Aircraft Rescue & Firefighter Facility

The Port of Seattle's ARFF project at SeaTac International Airport focused on identifying and upgrading the station's most-pressing operational and life-safety needs. After many previously unsuccessful funding requests,the need to identify the improvements that would provide the most benefit for the lim-ited dollars available was painfully clear. Ris-ing to the top was training. With essentially no training facilities at the airport, the tower addition was a large boost for ARFF person-nel to better prepare for airport emergencies in the terminal, aircraft hangers, and com-mercial structures directly accessing the run-way areas. With three stories, plus a pitched roof and basement, the new tower provides many training opportunities for ground lad-dering, aerial operations, search and rescue, confined space, rappelling and rope rescue, stair tower operations, rapid intervention, and standpipe procedures.
