IEEE approves 802.1 aq shortest path bridging standard for local and metro Ethernet networks

The IEEE Standards Association has announced approval of the IEEE 802.1aq-2012 standard 'Local and metropolitan area networks: bridges and virtual bridged local area networks', also known as Shortest Path Bridging (SPB), intended to help reduce the complexity of Ethernet networks while increasing their scalability.
