Ericsson has been selected to roll out a cloud-native, dual-mode 5G core network for KDDI (au), enabling the operator to launch 5G standalone (SA) services in Japan. In a press release outlining the development, the Swedish vendor announced that the deployment will enable KDDI 'to develop new 5G use cases for consumers, enterprises and industry partners' as it ramps up '5G use case development and realization' in the country. The Swedish company will deploy the Ericsson Cloud Packet Core to support the MNO's focus on accelerating the digital transformation of corporate customers, it said. The dual-mode 5G core will help KDDI 'support the development of new 5G use cases for mobile broadband users, enterprises and industry partners,' it added. It will also support KDDI's recently announced enterprise-focused KDDI 5G Business Cocreation Alliance, of which Ericsson is a partner.
