The recent raid on Gibson Guitars has stirred up a lot of controversy. In 2009, Gibson allegedly illegally imported rosewood and ebony from Madagascar. In August, the company was accused of using illegal sawn wood exported from India. Some have risen up in defense of the Nashville guitar manufacturer, saying that the raid was excessive.Others have criticized the company for violating a regulation, for breaking the law.. "An environmental crime is a crime," one observer pointed out in a conference call I was part of a few weeks ago. Some have blamed the Tea Party for financing illegal logging interests (I'm not making this up) while others criticize big government overreaching and difficult-tounderstand regulations.
