Oulun Aseveljet oli vuosina 1940-45 toiminut rintamamiesyhdistys, jonka joukko talvisodan oululaisia aseveljiä perusti yhdyssiteekseen välirauhan aikana. Aseveliyhdistys oli ennen kaikkea vapaaehtoista huoltotyötä tehnyt järjestö, joka aineellisesti ja henkisesti auttoi vuosittain satoja oululaisia aseveliperheitä selviytymään kriisi- ja sota-ajan arjessa. Oulun Aseveljien sosiaalinen huoltotyö vahvisti osaltaan kotirintaman kykyä kestää sodanajan rasituksia ja kamppailla ulkoista uhkaa vastaan. Oulun aseveliyhdistys oli osa valtakunnallista aseveliliikettä, jonka toimintaa koordinoi Suomen Aseveljien Liitto (SAL).%Oulun Aseveljet (Comrades in Arms of Oulu) was an association functioning in 1940-1945. It was founded by Winter War comrades in arms from Oulu to form a bond between them. The association was a part of the national Suomen Aseveljien Liitto (Finnish Alliance of Comrades in Arms) that was formed as part of the post-Winter War aspiration to knowingly strengthen the national peaceful sentiment with political forces. Oulun Aseveljet was above all a voluntary care organisation that would help both materially and mentally hundreds of comrade-in-arms families to cope through the daily routines in a time of crisis and war. The care provided by the association would form according to each situation. During the Interim Peace, the association helped the returning front soldiers to get employment so that they would soon get a hold of the civilian life. During the Continuation War in 1941-1944, the most central part of the association's care was to help the front soldiers' families in the acute material distress they faced. The single largest form of help was giving out firewood, and in addition help was given in form of food and clothing among others. The association also relieved the firewood shortage by organising voluntary woodcutting bees. After the peace in the autumn of 1944, Oulun Aseveljet began paving the way for the returning soldiers into the civilian life. The most important way of helping was to acquire apartments for them, as Oulu suffered from a serious housing shortage. Oulun Aseveljet also supported the sentiment of the home front in Oulu. Both during the Interim Peace and the Winter War it was an active part in organising patriotic events to strengthen national unity, such as the functions on Independence Day and Memorial Day. There were also some more casual events. The association conducted comrades-in-arms-events and brisk exercise campaigns already during the Interim peace. During the Continuation War, the association enlivened the Oulu home front's days by organising entertaining pastime, starring representatives of the troops. The association's wide and versatile operation was enabled above all by its skilled and socially networked board as well as the generous helping hand of enterprises and employees of Oulu, giving the association a stern financial basis. In addition, it was well within the association's rights to look after the soldiers' interests in Oulu, as a large part of the frontline soldiers from Oulu during the Winter War and the Continuation War were members of the association. The operation of Oulun Aseveljet stopped in the middle of rebuilding. The Finnish communists demanded for Suomen Aseveljien Liitto together with its member associations to be dismantled for political reasons regarding the Moscow Armeistice. In the end, a control commission of the Allies in charge of supervising the fulfilment of the terms of peace in Finland pressured the Finnish government to dissolve the Alliance - including Oulun Aseveljet - in January 1945. Luckily for the front soldiers in Oulu, the association had time to donate its funds to voluntary work in their benefit.
