Latvia despairs of its politicians

Riga has long traditions in business and shipping - the former Hanseatic port city celebrates its 800th anniversary just as Latvia, together with Lithuania and Estonia, is knocking at the doors of both the European Union and NATO. However, the recent performance of the Latvian government has not impressed the shipping community, as the privatisation of Latvian Shipping Co (LSC) failed for the fourth time and efforts to introduce tonnage tax have stalled.
