The mercantile marine education sector in India is in celebration mode. It has just completed 75 years of activity. The decommissioned training ship Dufferin that once provided a perfect backdrop in Mumbai for the first crew training in the country has long departed. But maritime training in India has come a long way, carving out a niche for itself in the international market, thanks to that vessel and the subsequent training ships Rajendra and Chanakya. But the celebrations failed to hide profound worries about the future.
