Chantiers lands crucial cruise order

Anorder for two 85,000gt cruise liners could not have come at a more crucial time for Chantiers de l'Atlantique, the French shipbuilder. Since the delivery of Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 in December last year, Chantiers has had just one passenger vessel order - a 33,000gt cross-channel ferry for Sea France. So the orders from Mediterranean Shipping Cruises, part of the Aponte family's shipping empire, were great news for the yard, whose product range includes passenger vessels, LNG carriers and naval ships.
