In the Capesize sector, business is proceeding briskly, with little surprise when routes firm sharply. After all, rates are at just $90,000 a day, and what are the profits in that? Well, according to a press release from Golden Ocean, quite a lot. It has fixed two new-building Capes being constructed at Daehan's yard to Goldbeam for five years'timecharter at $36,800 a day. At the same time, it sold the vessels to a ship investment company and took them back on bareboat charter at $27,450 a day for the first five years. It later disclosed that it expects a breakeven rate of $31,750 a day.This gives operating costs of $4,300 per day.
