Bollinger Shipyards has been selected by the US Coast Guard to design and build up to 34 Sentinel class fast response cutters to replace the Island class cutters the yard built almost a quarter of a century ago. CEO and chairman Donald'Boysie' Bollinger said the programme, expected to last for about a decade, could provide employment for about 500 people. The new vessels measure 47.1 m in length and 7.75m in breadth, with a draught of 2.5m, and are powered by two Tier II diesel engines rated at 5,760bhp.
