Ever since the scope of box ship overcapacity became clear, char-terparties have proved a top target for renegotiation. Shipowners relying on long-term contracts with the largest names in the sector have found themselves forced into painful compromises - a pattern that is likely to accelerate.rnThis risk is particularly daunting for Global Ship Lease (GSL), the NYSE-listed owner of 17 container ships which also has two 4,250teu newbuildings on order.rnGSL's entire fleet is on charter to the embattled French carrier CMA CGM, with its newbuildings to be employed by similarly distressed Zim.
