The presence of Palestinian and Israeli representatives at a confidential Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) trade ministers' meeting late last year has prompted fresh speculation that the creation of a Euro-Med Free-Trade Area may be imminent. The European Commission (EC) has revealed to Fairplay that ministers and officials from EU and Mediterranean countries - including a "senior Israeli government official from the trade and industry ministry" - agreed on 11 November to endorse key trade proposals, including initiatives that would enable Palestinian products to enter the UfM economies.
