The China Newbuilding Price Index (CNPI) has continued to strengthen in the two weeks since the last release by gaining 0.5% to 883 points. This returns it to levels last seen on 30 June 2012. Among the component indices, the dry bulker index (CNDPI) has been the most active, firming by 0.9% to 881 points - levels last seen in March 2012. The oil tanker index (CNTPI) is being dragged down by VLCC prices and closed mid-September down -0.3% at 920. Still, there is an overall firming for the quarter of 0.44% for tanker prices.
