The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) has created an anti-corruption clause to offer protection to shipowners, who are vulnerable to contract terminations and unpaid-for delays caused by illegal payment demands at ports. The clause sets out a graduated response to a demand for an illegal payment, while charterers and shipowners agree to work together to resist unlawful demands - most importantly, without undermining the shipowners' rights to hire, uninterrupted laytime, and demurrage.
