The port of Rotterdam has given 41-year-old Edwin Lammers the job of spearheading its effort to replace Antwerp as Europe's number one breakbulk port. Lammers, who was previously commercial manager at Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC), ajoint venture between the port of Rotterdam and the Sultanate of Oman, has been given the newly created post of head of breakbulk at the Dutch port with effect from September 1. He served for six years as commercial manager at SIPC and, according to the port, made an important contribution to the port's "meteoric" development, in which traffic throughput rose from zero in 2003 to 50 million tonnes in 2014.
