Methods and applications of artificial and computational intelligence

This Special Issue is based on the expanded versions of selected papers presented during 11th MICAI, Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, October 27 - November 4, 2012, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. MICAI conferences are organized annually by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). This Special Issue starts with the Invited Paper written by Francisco J. Cantu-Ortiz, Past President of SMIA (1997-2000) and Conference Chair of the 1st MICAI, organized in Acapulco, Mexico in 2000. In his paper "Advancing artificial intelligence research and dissemination through conference series: benchmark, scientific impact and the MICAI experience" he presents an overview, analysis and benchmark of the best-known artificial intelligence conferences, including MICAI, IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI, IBERAMIA, AAJCAI and PRICAI. Conference trends and future developments are also explained.
