REACH - has Telstra dropped its dream too soon?

International bandwidth prices are unrealistic and regulators are not to blame! Telstra's move this week to distance itself from REACH may prove to be too hasty. In August 2000, at the height of the dot.com boom, Telstra and PCCW announced the creation of REACH. Telstra vested its undersea cable assets in the joint venture. And, this week it took them back. REACH is now managing the cable assets (it still owns satellite assets) and selling data services only to its two shareholders. Dreams of floating REACH have sunk forever. I am not sure that all this was inevitable.
