Triple zero calling from VoIP services: rules will be tightened

Providers of VoIP services that allow calls to standard phone numbers but not incoming calls will face more stringent requirements to infonn customers if they choose not to support calls to the 000 emergency number, under draft rules put out for industry consultation by the ACMA VoIP providers whose service closely emulated the standard telephone service (in that they support incoming and outgoing calls via a standard phone number) are already required to support (XX) calling, but at present it is sufficient for operators that support only outgoing calls (Type 2 VoIP in ACMA jargon) to simply state that calls to 000 are not supported.
