The New Zealand Government will shortly launch a centralised Internet filtering system designed to block access only to child pornography. Participation by ISPs will be voluntary but the scheme is facing strong opposition from InternetNZ. InternetNZ last week issued a position paper calling on the Department of Internal Affairs to "conduct a thorough study of the extent of access of child abuse material on the Internet and the best ways of addressing it," before launching its planned filtering system.rn"InternetNZ supports a safe environment for people online, and absolutely deplores the availability and use of child abuse material," said InternetNZ policy director Jordan Carter.
