The instruments have the bandwidth to handle next-generation serial interfaces, and they're available with interface-specific software that can simplify characterization and validation tasks. And even before your prototypes get to the bench, you can make use of designautomation software that provides insight into how your design will perform. Specific instruments for the task include logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, bit-error-rate testers (BERTs), phase-noise testers, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and, of course, oscilloscopes.
