Understanding real-time is not diffi-cult when it can be determined which portions of an application truly require real-time performance. Most measurement and automation applications can achieve real-time under Windows simply by using modern data acquisition hardware and advanced bus instrumentation. Also, new technologies like Lab VIEW RT and Windows CE make developing real-time applications easy by allowing the development programs to be written under familiar, industry-standard environments and then easily transferred to real-time hardware.
