Editor's Introduction Promoting Diversity in Management Scholarship: Opening the Doors for Multiple Languages, and Interdisciplinary Dialogue and Developing Our Communities

摘要

Management scholarship can benefit from an expansion of its methodological and theoretical horizons. Journals in the field of general management can serve as catalysts for blending different theories and methodologies. Calls for theoretical and methodological pluralism in the field of management are now very old. Some journals have attempted at widening access to multiple perspectives by issuing explicit calls in their editorial articles and encouraging authors to translate their scholarship to a general management audience. Attempts to transcend narrow disciplinary and theoretical silos in order to develop more robust and authoritative perspectives have been only partly successful. Management scholarship continues to suffer from hegemony of limited range of theories and methods. Taking on this long standing challenge of promoting pluralism against purist tendencies in management scholarship now requires a new approach. European Management Review (EMR), the official journal of the European Academy of Management (EURAM), is entering a new phase of growth and expansion with the specific intention of recognizing and promoting diversity in management scholarship. In this editorial, I provide an overview of our efforts to bridge disciplinary silos, build up our plans to better serve our communities of authors, reviewers, editors and readers that we seek to serve.
