摘要

Residential care institutions for children at risk are still a poorly understood institutional arrangement. Using complexity theory as a framework, the aim of this article is to analyse how social pedagogues at such institutions model the relationship between themselves and the children in care. Eleven focus-group interviews were conducted, based on a case vignette technique. The findings suggest a distinction between pedagogical coherence and obligation, implying that procedures for handling difficult episodes may exist independently of existing treatment programmes. The consequences for understanding institutional practices are outlined. Der er fortsat behov for en afdækning af døgninstitutioners praksis.
