Migration of people in Europe often did not happen voluntarily, in fact, the 20th century shows many cases of forced migration as part of policies aiming for ethnic homogenization. The article shows the various methods and historic developments of some of the biggest resettlements of national minorities in the 20th century with special regard to the German minorities and recent developments in the former Yugoslavia.
