I am very sad to record the sudden death on 22 January of Franz Traxler, at the age of 58. Franz was a member of the International Advisory Panel of the journal from its foundation in 1995. He was a valuable supporter of the EJIR and published a number of articles in its pages, most recently (with his colleague Bernd Brandl) in our last issue.rnFranz was a prominent figure in the development of comparative industrial sociology and industrial relations in Europe, and was distinctive in his ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative analysis. He built up an outstanding team of researchers in our field at the University of Vienna. He will be greatly missed, and we send our sympathy to his friends and family.
