The back cover of this book carries our endorsement of its first incarnation as a well-organized, well-informed, student-friendly textbook that deserves to be widely taken up. That presumably has been the case, for it now goes into a second edition four years after it first appeared in the bookshops. Eoin Devereux has revised and expanded the earlier version of the book, and added new and revised case studies and readings. He has also expanded the sections on media audiences, fandom and blog-ging. The book now has a companion website, at www.sagepub.co.uk/devereux. As well as covering ownership and globalization, ideology and discourse, the book gives equal treatment to production, content and reception. It remains a useful primer in media studies, particularly for first-year undergraduates.
