Angie, a little mixed-breed mutt who came to live with me a decade ago, does not take tasty morsels off of the counter when I am away at work. She does not harm other creatures-even little helpless creatures who attract her predator's eye. She once did, but no longer. Angie does not generally choose to do things that I ask her not to do. One of my friends calls her 'Saint Angela' because she is trustworthy and amiable compared with my friend's very difficult hound, who always asserts her interest in going where she chooses and eating what she pleases.
