The book Regio's in verandering -Ontwerpen voor adaptiviteit ('Regions in transition - Designs for adaptivity') is a good introduction to the trend of regionalisation, which has already been going on for years. Regions seem to be the crystallization point of local economies and cultures - and this makes them intangible, as they all harbour within themselves both a power and a combination of identities all their own. 'Spatially, a region cannot be delimited unequivocally', Eric Frij-ters and Olv Klijn conclude. 'Even the scale is dynamic and is determined by economic, cultural, physical and social functionality as well as the available infrastructure.'
