A public arena for Talca city

Although architecture in Chile has been gaining international recognition in recent years, landscape architecture and urban planning are still experiencing problems. Political parties seem to have little interest in improving public spaces, and in urban planning generally. Architects count themselves lucky if two open international competitions are held by the authorities each year: all the other urban developments depend on private initiatives. The competition to find a new use for the old prison in Talca, Chile, attracted no fewer than 104 teams of architects from Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Spain, France and Sweden.
