Paving stones with an edge

While most designers and manufacturers concentrate on innovating the surface or surface structure of paving products, Ishele Levy explores their contours. Her search has culminated in a series of designs for the outer edges of paving stones, which she has applied to cast and ceramic material. At Kortrijk Interieur 2008, a competition for designers who were invited to design a floor pattern for the Belgian city of Kortrijk, her Unite design won first prize. A pilot area has been laid out by Urbastyle, a Belgian manufacturer who is not afraid of investing in new experimental products. The concrete stones measuring 60 x 60 x 8 centimetres with their 'postage-stamp' edges give the paving its own individual character when the pointing is app-lied.
