A special garden zone will be set up at the 2011 Xi'an International Horticulture Exhibition. Nine top designers have been invited to create Master Gardens, each covering an area of 1000m2. Invited by the organizing committee of the exhibition, Wang Xiangrong explains his ideas for the selection of the happy few. Cathelijne Nuijsink briefly introduces the designs.Selecting the designers was not a difficult task. We decided that each of the nine gardens should be designed by a landscape architect from a different country. So what were our selection criteria? Based on our understanding of what an exhibition garden should be, we were looking for designers with a strongly conceptual approach, who would be capable of designing a garden that demonstrates the designers' thinking and deep understanding of garden art.
