When I was a child, my mother often discovered a detail of our house's interior that was annoying her, such as nicely framed photos on the wall that were vanishing in the dark as soon as dusk fell and the central lamp only lit the dining table. Every time she passed in front of the photos, she uttered her irritation, until my father, silently, when she was away, installed electricity along the wall, fitted a lamp or two - good German hardware bought at the nearest DIY store and switched the light on when she came back. 'This looks dreadful!' she exclaimed. 'But it works...,' he protested, surprised at her dissatisfaction. My father is an engineer, and my mother once had the idea of becoming an interior designer but eventually dedicated her life to a career as a psychologist. This was the reason I always thought I had to fill the gap and so I chose an architectural study.
