The Buizengat site is situated on the old inner harbour of Vlaardingen, a town in Zuid-Holland. In the 19th century, it was a hub of industrial activity with municipal buildings such as the town's cleansing department and its civil service. The inner harbour at Buizengat cuts right intornthe urban structure of Vlaardingen and, from the dyke provides a deep perspective into the town centre. The firm studied how the location could be fitted into the larger scale and whether a plan could be devised which would produce a feeling of closer involvement between different parts of Vlaardingen.
