… is to bring the reader up to date on some recent developments in research on driver distraction and driver inattention, and on current thinking about how to manage them effectively as road safety issues. With contribution from around 50 authors from more than ten countries … (p. 4) These countries include Australia, Germany, France, Sweden, the UK, the USA, and others. Asia and Africa are ignored, and neither 'culture' nor 'cross-cultural differences' appear in the index; this is a shame but suggests research is badly needed in those two continents. This conclusion is not made in the final chapter (24) sub-titled 'Current themes and research directions'. Thus a massive lacuna is ignored although relevant research from Asia and Africa is, surely, sparse.
