You Say You Want An Environmental Studies Revolution?

Timothy Leduc notes that Canadian environmental studies programs have not been able to fully implement the interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum design and research that they require because of the stultifying influence of traditional academic disciplines. And even if they could implement such approaches, interdisciplinarity has problems of its own, as he explains at length. It may be necessary, but not sufficient for these programs. Perhaps something much more drastic is required. Some envision a revolution in which environmental studies programs undergo a metamorphosis and re-emerge as strong and effective environmental policy players.
