Ecological economics has been defined broadly yet influentially as the 'science and management of sustainability' (Costanza, 1991). The founders of this field envisioned a transdisciplinary discourse that bridged the natural sciences, economics and ethics in understanding and appropriately restructuring the links between environmental and economic systems. In the present volume, Baumgartner et al. set forth the concept of joint production as a unifying theme in this endeavour. The book offers a wide-ranging, analytically precise and quite readable account of its subject area.
