This is a bold and encouraging book, which shows how, through ecofemi-nism, 'vegetarianism becomes an act of resistance against patriarchal forms of oppression' (p. 243). It confidently delivers the kind of engaged, gendered analysis of everyday treatment of 'nature' which academic ecofeminism has been missing for a long time, and provides an excellent example of the kind of project to which ecofeminist understandings urgently need to be applied. As a vegan ecofeminist activist, Kheel presents this as a contribution to a public discussion, recognising that these issues are relevant far beyond the academic community.
