Environmental Change and Globalization: Double Exposure

Global Environmental Change (GEC) has come to dominate public attention at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century just as globalisation dominated public concerns at the end of the last century. While massive protests against the ultimately unsuccessful Seattle World Trade Organization (WTO) talks in 1999 was the signature movement for the coming of age of the globalisation agenda, it is to be hoped that the recent generally unsuccessful Copenhagen Conference of Parties (CoPs) in 2009 is not the defining movementf or the GEC agenda. In this context Robin Leichenko and Karen O'Brien make a very timely and useful intervention to elucidate and educate potential sophisticated readers - mostly upper class undergraduates and first-year postgraduate students in the subjects of geography, sociology, anthropology,environmental studies and perhaps evenafew progressive economics departments - on the nuances and inter-linkages of the two agendas.
