Environment: An Interdisciplinary Anthology

This new anthology of writings on the environment stands out from the rest by virtue of its strong commitment to diversity of knowledge sources. To begin with, the editors themselves represent the fields of biology, environmental studies, literature and environmental consulting. Selections are aptly drawn from a large range of disciplines within the sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. There is ecology, history, politics, philosophy, nature writing, spirituality, economics, poetry and much more. What this does is to convey the message that environmental studies - a holistic or hybrid approach to knowledge - may best be seen as grounded in wide-ranging creative human endeavour; that the health of the planet is (or should be) not only the concern of all, but something to which all can contribute their equally valuable forms of understanding; and perhaps also that an environ-mentalism which is both experiential and well-informed could one day be a meeting place for a very broad cross-section of humanity.
