Energy for the Future: A New Agenda

摘要

This book cogently argues for the value of social science insights in addressing current energy and climate challenges. It arises out of a five year programme of research by the Sussex Energy Group at SPRU, University of Sussex, UK, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Councilrn(ESRC). The contributions, all by members of that Group, emphasise the importance of the social framing of key issues and concepts. Part I of the book analyses the current framing of national and international energy policy issues and related concepts of governance and lock-in, showing both the rise in prominence of climate change as an issue, and also how this has to compete for attention with concerns over security of energy supplies and other issues. Part II proposes new approaches in relation to key policy areas, such as promoting socio-technical systems change, technology assessment and innovation policy, carbon trading and the role of energy citizens. Part III draws these strands together to produce conclusions and energy policy implications. Further context is provided by a foreword and an afterword written by other leading SPRU academics.
