Regulating from Nowhere reinvigorates the moral dimensions of environmental law through a novel reinterpretation of the precautionary principle that situates political communities within a view of complex systems theory. To this end, it interrogates environmental policy platforms that attempt to mitigate the role of individual and communal agency in the history and theory of environmental law and in the practice of environmental decision making. This review considers each of the book's four parts, which will be of interest to those in the fields of environmental law, policy and ethics, and more broadly, those concerned with how to conceive of the political communities we inhabit in a manner congruent with complex, adaptive systems.
