We appreciate the comment (1)on our paper (2) regarding the "first report" of benzotriazole UV stabilizers in the environment. We have read the papers listed in the comment, and we recognized that previous studies have identified some benzotrizaoles in the aquatic systems during the 1970s and 1980s. Jungclaus et al. (3) detected UV-P (CAS: 2440-22-4), UV-320 (3846-71-7), UV-328 (25973-55-1), and UV-327 (3864-99-1) in sediments from the Pawtuxet River, RI, U.S.A. Lopes-Avilas and Hites (4) reported the transportation profiles of UV-P, UV-328, and UV-327 from wastewater to sediment. Temporal trends of UV-328 and UV-327 concentrations were investigated by analyzing sediment core samples (5-7). Analytical method for benzotriazoles was partly introduced (8). However, none of these papers listed keywords or titles with "UV filters", "benzotriazole", "stabilizers", "bioaccu-mulation", or "marine environment". Unfortunately, these papers did not come as hits during reference searches, using SCOPUS, 1SI Web of Knowledge, and Medline when we used the keywords for searching THE literature.
