摘要

China is a legendary country that supplied 22% of the world's population with food and fiber by planting only 7% of the world's arable land in the past decades. Recently, with rapid economic development, increasing water and energy demands, a huge growing population, urbanization, climate change, and farmland shrinkage, China's economic development will be met with a few unprecedented bottlenecks. China is aware that its food security and rural poverty alleviation are primarily being restricted by severe water shortages in northern China and high-frequency flooding in southern China.
