Critically reading a manuscript about a topic that is near to your heart often provides new insights into your own research. It is also an opportunity to give something back to the community that has provided you with the fresh perspective that comes from simultaneously knowing the topic and not being blinded by too much familiarity with the experimental setup and prior results.
