Recent Data Shows Ozone Layer May be Making a Comeback: After almost two decades of decline, there are now indications that the ozone layer may be showing some re-growth. At the European Space Agency's (ESA's) Atmospheric Science Conference in Barcelona, Spain, held September 7-11, Diego G. Loyola of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) was able to announce, "We found a global slightly positive trend of ozone increase of almost 1% per decade in the total ozone from the last 14 years: a result that was confirmed by comparisons with ground-based measurements." The findings were the result of an ambitious effort to merge vertically downward-looking measurements from instruments on two ESA satellites, and a third from the European Meteorological Satellite Organization, with the 'limb,'' or sideways measurements of U.S. instruments SBUV. SAGE I+II and HALOE, and two European satellites, Odin and Envisar.
